Objectives of the PAEPARD side event @ the 7th AASW
By organizing a side event@AASW, the management and partners of PAEPARD would like to achieve the following objectives:
- To learn lessons drawn from a trajectory going through calls to the ULP with the use of the CRF and IF instruments, and the communication and advocacy strategy;
- To learn opportunities and challenges of engaging SMEs and SMBs in multi-stakeholder partnerships;
- To raise the visibility of PAEPARD, the EC and all PAEPARD partners during AASW.
Expected outputs/outcomes from the side event
The following outcomes are expected from the side event:
- Better knowledge of PAEPARD by ARD stakeholders participating to the AASW;
- Ideas collected from participants will help in the implementation of the project and feed in the capitalization workshop at the end of the project;
- Brainstorm on how to engage partners in the reflection on the next phase;
- The event will offer opportunity to nurture new partnerships for consortia and ULPs for their sustainability after PAEPARD

En organisant un événement parallèle @ AASW, la direction et les partenaires de PAEPARD aimeraient atteindre les objectifs suivants:
- Tirer des leçons d'une trajectoire passant par les appels à propositon puis par les l'ULP avec l'utilisation des instruments CRF et IF, et la stratégie de communication et de plaidoyer;
- Apprendre sur les opportunités et les défis de l'engagement des PME et les PMB dans les partenariats multi-acteurs;
- Accroître la visibilité de PAEPARD, de la CE et tous les partenaires PAEPARD pendant AASW.
Effets/ résultats de l'événement parallèle attendus
Les résultats suivants sont attendus à partir de l'événement parallèle:
- Une meilleure connaissance de PAEPARD par les parties prenantes RAD participant au AASW;
- Idées recueillies auprès des participants contribueront à la mise en œuvre du projet et nourriront la reflexion dans l'atelier de capitalisation à la fin du projet;
- Brainstormer sur la façon de mobiliser les partenaires dans la réflexion sur la phase suivante;
- L'événement offrira l'occasion de coopter de nouveaux partenariats pour les consortiums et ULPs pour leur durabilité après PAEPARD.

2-6 October 2017. Cotonou, Benin. PAEPARD Capitalization Workshop with partners.
The workshop was key to the overall evaluation of
PAEPARD II, as it encouraged participants to analyse
and reflect on their experiences of the AfricanEuropean
MSP for ARD processes facilitated by
PAEPARD over the last 7 years.
During discussions, the partners reflected on the way
forward for PAEPARD activities and the sustainability
of its achievements, with recommendations for a
potential ‘new era’ and promoting the MSP structure
at both policy and ground levels.
The main objective of the workshop was to draw
specific lessons (both successes and failures) from
the ULP, CRF-IF and consortia, which are outlined
below.
This workshop gathered :
Competitive Research Funding:
- The Trichoderma sp. biofertilizer consortium in Burkina Faso, involving private sector companies BIOPROTECT and BIOPHYTECH, as well as the NGO Association pour la Recherche et la Formation en Agroécologie (ARFA);
- The soybean consortium in Benin, led by the NGO SOJAGNON which has been supporting the processing of soybean-derived products such as milk and Dadonu (a local taste enhancer);
- The African indigenous fruit and vegetables (AIFV) consortium in Uganda, which focuses on innovative processes for extending the shelf life of AIFV without degrading their nutritive qualities;
- The GnVC consortium also received CRF for a project in Malawi-Zambia led by the National Association of Smallholder Farmers (NASFAM).
- The hot pepper consortium in Togo, which supports the exchange of improved seed varieties of hot pepper from Brazil;
- The citrus consortium in Ghana, which aims to overcome the fungal Angular Leaf Spot disease and improve postharvest management of citrus fruit;
- The poultry feed consortium in Nigeria, addresses the issue of high cost, poor quality poultry feeds in Nigeria with alternative feed ingredients;
- The potato seed consortium in Burundi, which aims to strengthen the informal potato seed system to improve seed quality.

une vitalité inédite en Afrique, en Asie et dans les Caraïbes. C'est ce
que met en lumière la 2e édition du concours "La France s'engage au Sud".
La France s’engage au Sud, démarche lancée le 24 avril 2015 est la première déclinaison thématique,

- En Tunisie, Dream in Tunisia, lancée par Sarah Toumi, replante des arbres et accompagne les agriculteurs dans la valorisation de leurs produits.
- En Haïti, Sisalco, dirigée par Marie Franco, développe une filière autour du sisal.
- Au Burkina Faso Bioprotect-B, piloté par Wendwaoga Claude Arsène, développe la fertilisation des terres grâce à des intrants biologiques.
- Et en Guinée-Conakry, Fapel, créé par Aguibou Barry, a lancé des pompes à eau alternatives, à piston, à des coûts abordables.
- Assurer la promotion de l’alimentation à base de ressources locales est un enjeu majeur. Au Bénin, la coopérative Super Fruit Baobab, fondée par Brice Valentin Gbaguidi, fabrique des produits dérivés du baobab.
- Et au Burkina Faso, FasoPro, lancée par Kahitouo Hien, industrialise la production de la chenille de karité.
- L’Institut de recherche pour le développement (IRD),
- l’Agence Française de Développement (AFD);
- SensCube: présent en France, Belgique, au Mexique et au Sénégal, le SenseCube développe des programmes d’accompagnement allant d’une semaine à une année, alliant soutien stratégique, mise en relation avec des experts, connexion avec des partenaires, et immersion au sein de la communauté MakeSense;
- Bond’innov: un incubateur de projets innovants qui accompagne les startups françaises tournées vers l’International ainsi que les startups du Sud

This workshop harvested the experiences of the consortia related to the Users'led process of PAEPARD (research steered by the beneficiaries: private sector actors and farmer organisations) and the consortia funded under the PAEPARD Competitive research Fund and the Dutch Applied Research Fund.
During the project’s Steering Committee meeting (held in Montpellier on April 16th and 17th), which considered a possible new phase of the project, the weakness of the project with regards to publications and documenting the PAEPARD story was highlighted. As a consequence, the process and outcome of this workshop will be documented in detail.
