Climate Change Africa Opportunities (CCAO) is a pan-African non-profit organization for incubation, support, impetus and capacity building for startups and local initiatives of young green entrepreneurs, women and indigenous peoples and innovators knowledge (traditional and or modern), new ideas and initiatives offering and or likely to offer services, indigenous and technological solutions to improve African resilient capacities to face the challenges of climate change and contribute to the promotion and defending climate and environmental justice and reducing poverty with a view to protecting the environment, biodiversity and the resilient management of natural resources in the context of climate change in Africa.

CONTEXT

Africa is the continent most vulnerable to climate variability and change, a situation which is compounded by the interaction between “multiple constraints” including heavy dependence on agriculture, widespread poverty and low capacity to adaptation. Climate change, which often manifests as sharp increases in temperatures, rising sea levels, changes in weather, and other extreme consequences, often with negative effects on human health, biodiversity and natural ecosystems , serious environmental, social and economic impacts. These represent a real challenge for indigenous populations and the socio-economic development prospects of Africa, including women and girls, who not only suffer the effects of environmental damage, but also oppression and acts of violence. which intersect in their respective situations.

Faced with these complex climatic meanders and challenges, young green entrepreneurs, African women's movements and indigenous populations, strong in their knowledge and potential, have assets that are generally overlooked and little valued in Africa. Young green entrepreneurs, women and indigenous peoples often contribute by creating African startups and initiatives by women and indigenous peoples to save Africa and the entire planet. However, this contribution from young green entrepreneurs, women and indigenous African populations constitutes a lever of innovation for the mitigation and adaptation of African populations to climate change with a view to supporting the preservation of the environment, biodiversity and the rational management of African natural resources while indirectly creating thousands of jobs and economic opportunities likely to contribute to sustainable development in Africa.

VISION

An economically and ecologically sustainable Africa through the valorization and capitalization of indigenous ideas and knowledge, techniques, services and solutions and innovative technological solutions from young green entrepreneurs, women and indigenous African communities in the context of climate change.

MISSION

Contribute to improving African resilience to the challenges of climate change by supporting startups and initiatives of young green entrepreneurs, women and indigenous peoples from the perspective of environmental justice, environmental protection, biodiversity and rational management of natural resources in Africa.

RANGE OF ACTION

The African continent as a whole constitutes the operational area of action for Climate Change Africa Opportunities (CCAO).

GOALS

1) Conduct research, influence, strengthen and facilitate the transition to climate resilient development through innovative and responsive policies, startups, projects and initiatives that guarantee environmental justice, green economies, healthy ecosystems and well-being of local and indigenous communities in Africa;
2) Improve the competitiveness of startups, community and indigenous initiatives and projects in order to facilitate their connections through the great support opportunities for startups and initiatives of young green entrepreneurs, women and indigenous African communities at the international level;
3) Mobilize partners and donors for the financing of startups and initiatives of young green entrepreneurs, women and indigenous communities with a view to supporting the preservation of the environment and the rational management of African natural resources while indirectly creating thousands of jobs and economic opportunities likely to contribute to the sustainable development of Africa.

CCAO AMBITION

The CCAO plans to support and boost the entrepreneurship of young people, women and indigenous populations in the face of the challenges of climate change in Africa with a view to:

Accelerate the mitigation of climate change the establishment of a vast pan-African and indigenous reforestation program (productive forestry) in Africa;
Revolutionize the ADAPTATION of the smart agriculture, renewable energy, urbanization, sanitation, transport, environmental communication, climate and environmental justice sectors as well as in the protection and management sector resilient natural resources and biodiversity in the context of change in Africa.

The ambition of CCAO is to set up and consolidate the dynamics of systemic, structural, participatory and integrated transformation of the challenges of climate change into ecological and socio-economic opportunities for the sustainable development of Africa.

To achieve this, Climate Change Africa Opportunities (CCAO) intends to accelerate the climate change mitigation process and improve African resilience to the challenges of climate change by supporting startups and initiatives by young green entrepreneurs, women and Indigenous Peoples on Community Resilience, Urban Resilience, Climate and Environmental Communication and Education, Climate and Environmental Justice, and on Resilient Protection and Management of Natural Resources and Biodiversity in the Context of Change in Africa .

CCAO GUIDING PRINCIPLES

We believe in:

The potential of youth, women and indigenous populations constitutes a lever for innovation for the mitigation and adaptation of African populations to climate change;
An integrated approach that adapts to local conditions, follows the principle of subsidiarity and strengthens local ownership of actions.
Combining modern (scientific) and traditional (indigenous) approaches to achieving results, with the help of CCAO Africa Coordination Office.
A CCAO coordination office which facilitates and organizes and supports beneficiaries and partners and donors who voluntarily support the various implementation programs.
A focus on strengthening inter-institutional collaboration.
A multi-stakeholder approach and public-private cooperation which promote mutual support between the actors and an optimal allocation of resources.
Gender equality and the empowerment of women and youth in the various implementation programs.
The inclusion of indigenous populations.

CCAO APPROACHES

1) ENGAGE - Encourage young Africans, women and indigenous populations to innovate and solve the problems and challenges of climate change in Africa.
2) EMPOWER - Provide lifelong learning, continuous training and support to young African entrepreneurs and innovators in the climate and environmental field during the first critical stages of their career.
3) CONNECT - Match the best talents and their ideas with funding and career opportunities - maximize their chances of success.

BENEFICIARIES

1) Young green entrepreneurs(African) aged 18 to 35, carrying new ideas, startups and initiatives offering or likely to offer technological and or indigenous services and solutions to cope with the impacts of climate change and contributing to the protection and rational management of the environment, biodiversity and natural resources in Africa;
2) Women and girls victims of inequalities and the impacts of climate change in Africa;
3) Indigenous populations and local communities;
4) African farmers, breeders, fishermen;
5) Vulnerable urban populations in Africa.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS CCAO

Over the past five years, Climate Change Africa Opportunities (CCAO) has empowered different communities of young green entrepreneurs, women and indigenous peoples on community resilience, urban resilience, climate and environmental communication and education, climate justice and environmental as well as on the protection and resilient management of natural resources and biodiversity in the context of change in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Africa.

In just 5 years, the CCAO has reached more than 16,000 people in the Democratic Republic of Congo and in 14 African countries and has helped launch 27 start-ups and indigenous initiatives. To facilitate this work, CCAO has set up a network of focal points (in different African countries) which has played a key role in achieving these results and which has been the organization's greatest asset.
