Global Alliance for Climate Smart Agriculture

Acronym/Acronyme : GACSA
Description : The Global Climate Smart Agriculture Alliance (GACSA) is a global, apolitical, and multi-stakeholder platform on CSA that is hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

GACSA is an inclusive, voluntary and action-oriented multi-stakeholder platform on Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA). Its vision is to improve food security, nutrition, and resilience in the face of climate change by tapping into the wealth and diversity of resources, knowledge, information, and expertise that come from the broad spectrum of its members at all levels.
GACSA focuses on action, knowledge, practice sharing and learning, that inspires its members, and promotes far-ranging and all-inclusive dialogue that encourages concerted advocacy. The Alliance brings stakeholders together to discuss and promote CSA and food systems in an integrated manner aligned with local, national and regional priorities.

GACSA’s key functions are to:
1. Provide voluntary and inclusive multi-stakeholder platforms to foster dialogue and learning leading to action; allowing a diversity of views across disciplines and sectors and, geographical boundaries;
2. Leverage multi-institutional action to generate problem-solving knowledge and partnerships to advance the uptake of CSA at scale;
3. Provide easy access to integrated and updated information and knowledge on CSA through a service-oriented and purpose-built CSA knowledge management system.

GACSA aims to catalyse and help create transformational partnerships to encourage actions that reflect an integrated approach to the three pillars of CSA. GACSA fosters knowledge learning, sharing, partnership building, while also providing a space for dialogue and debate. GACSA’s delivery mechanism leverages on a team of experts and their capacities, who work collaboratively through three Action Groups (AGs) as follows:

• Knowledge: increasing and promoting knowledge, research, and development and translating them into technologies, practices, and policy approaches for CSA.

• Investment: improving the effectiveness of public and private investments that support the three pillars of climate-smart agriculture.

• Enabling Environments: integrating climate-smart agriculture into policy, strategies, and planning at regional, national, and local levels and across landscapes.
For each result area, these Action Groups consists of critical international, regional, or national organizations with a particularly relevant capacity or mandate. In each Action Group, the voice of youth will be mainstreamed.
